What You’ll Find
The moment you step into this cozy Fish Hoek spot, the scent of freshly baked bread wraps around you like a warm hug. Sunlight streams through the windows, catching the dust motes dancing above wooden tables worn smooth by countless elbows. There’s a gentle hum of conversation, the clink of coffee cups, and the satisfying thud of a baguette being placed on the counter. It feels less like a bakery and more like stumbling into someone’s beloved kitchen – if that kitchen happened to produce some of the best pastries on the peninsula. The decor is simple, unpretentious, letting the food do all the talking.
Food & Drinks
The croissants here are nothing short of spectacular – flaky, buttery layers that shatter at the slightest touch. That cinnamon twist? Pure danger in the best possible way. The sourdough bread has earned a near-legendary reputation, with a crust that crackles and a crumb that’s perfectly chewy. Don’t skip the pain au chocolat, especially if you catch it warm from the oven (definitely my favourite after an early morning swim on the Fish Hoek beach. The coffee is generally excellent, though during the morning rush, it can slip a little, still worth the wait though. Their chocolate and banana muffins are dangerously moreish, the kind you tell yourself you’ll save half of, but never do.

“Some of the best sourdough bread I’ve ever had! The Pain au chocolat is also amazing (especially when its warm). The coffee can be very good but when its super busy it slips a little but still worth the visit.”

“Sometimes I can be absolutely unaware of my surroundings. Perhaps I’m context blind? C’est La Vie Bakery is one of those perfect examples of me not perceiving my environment. I’ve walked past this shopfront for years, thought that their sign was for a laundry ( someone ironing? ). Only to discover “
