Write For Us
We're always open to guest contributions from writers, locals and visitors with a genuine story to tell about Cape Town and the Western Cape. That could be a neighbourhood you know well, a hike or drive worth doing, a restaurant or business you rate, or an experience from your own trip here.
We're not after brochure copy - we want specific, honest writing with real detail: names, places, prices, what actually happened.
We're also open to regular monthly contributors and ongoing series, if you've got a beat or theme you'd like to cover on a recurring basis.
What we're looking for: original, unpublished pieces of between 800 and 1,800 words, written in plain, direct English. Longer pieces are welcome if the story genuinely needs the space. British spelling, no press-release language, and no content that reads like it was written to promote a business rather than inform a reader.
How to submit: send a pitch or full draft to articles@capetowncurrent.com, along with a line or two about who you are and why you're the right person to write it. Include a photo or two if you have them. We aim to respond within 10 business days of submission.
We don't currently pay for guest posts, but we do credit every contributor with a byline and a link back to your own site or profile.
Before you submit
Send a short pitch first rather than a finished piece, if you're not sure it's a fit. A few lines on the angle and why it matters is enough for us to say yes or no quickly.
Write it the way you'd tell a friend, not the way a brochure would. Use real names, real prices, real specifics. If you visited a place, tell us what you actually saw and did, not what the website says about it.
Structure it clearly. A strong opening line, a body that holds together without padding, and an ending that doesn't just restate the intro. Break up longer pieces with subheadings where it helps the reader.
Images
Please supply your own original photographs to accompany your piece - no stock imagery. Include the photographer's name (yours or someone else's, with their permission) for the credit, and send images as separate files rather than embedded in a document.
Originality and exclusivity
Submissions must be original work written specifically for Cape Town Current and not published anywhere else, including your own blog or social media, before or after we run it. We won't consider pieces that have already appeared elsewhere or that you're planning to publish elsewhere at the same time.
What gets a piece rejected
Content that reads like it was written to promote a specific business without disclosing that connection. Recycled or AI-generated copy with no first-hand detail. Pieces that are really press releases with a few extra sentences added.
